As is often true of sport breeds, which result from much crossbreeding, the Italian Saddle Horse's build is not much different from that of other breeds. It has a balanced physique, robust and muscular; a long neck; wide and powerful back; and long and slender legs. Distribution: Italy, exported elsewhere in Europe. With a lively, nervous, willful, and sensitive temperament, the Italian Saddle Horse is an athletic, powerful, fast, and reliable horse. This sport horse excels in show jumping, dressage, eventing, and endurance events. The breed, sought-after for sporting competition in Italy, is doing very well.

This very recent breed was created from Italian breeds, notably the Sardinian Anglo-Arab, crossed with European sport breeds and Thoroughbreds. The idea was to combine the reliability of Italian breeds with the athletic prowess of the Thoroughbred. The breed is still evolving.
