Height: 1.55m-1.65m for males, 1.50m-1.65m for mares. Color: Mainly bay, dark bay, sometimes chestnut, with white markings. See the Yugoslav Trotter, the result of the same sort of crosses. It has a neck that is often long and quite muscular; a long body; and along, wide, and muscular croup. Distribution: Slovenia. The Ljutomer Trotter isfast, robust, lively, and good-natured. In addition to being a race horse, this trotter was once used a lot as a draft horse. It continues to compete at the Ljutomer racecourse. It also makes a good recreational horse. There were only around 250 of these local trotters in 2012, and 118 mares and 6 stallions in 2010. But Slovenian breeders aim to develop this breed considerably.

It has been bred since the end of the nineteenth century with a foundation of very fast Eastern horses, and has undergone the same types of crossings as the Yugoslav Trotter, i.e., with Anglo-Arabs and American Standardbreds. Breeding race horses was important for the aristocracy of the time, but for a long time this horse was also bred for farm work.
