Height: 1.48m-1.52m. Color: Chestnut, bay; carries the dun gene, it often has a dorsal stripe and zebra markings on the legs. This is a smallish, Iberian-type horse. It has a head with a straight or slightly convex profile, rather large ears, a broad chest, sloping shoulders, a rather long back, and a sloping croup. Distribution: Cuba, notably in the mountain region of Escambray. The Patibarcina is known to be intelligent, very lively, resilient, strong, and fast. It is popular as a saddle horse and for working livestock. This native horse is common.

The breed originated with a stallion called Lobo, carrier of the dun gene. It is of Iberian and Barb origin, crossed with the Cuban Trotter.
