Similar to the Tennessee Walker, it has a slender head; a long neck; sloping shoulders; a long back; long, slender legs; and a round, sloping croup. The tail is set high. Distribution: Alabama, United States. This is an intelligent, calm, gentle, and agile horse. It is quite comfortable thanks to its particular gait, the rack, which it performs while keeping its head immobile. Because of this gait and its endurance, its rider can go for a long time without tiring. Versatile, it is suited to both saddle and harness. Serene and comfortable, it is also a good horse for teaching new riders. This popular breed is doing very well.

The breed has been recognized since 1971. It was a plantation horse in the southern United States. It is descended from the Tennessee Walker, of which it was once considered a type.
