Height: 1.10m-1.20m. Color: Bay, dark bay, black, bay dun. The Romanian Pony is compact and stocky, with a very thick mane and tail. Distribution: Romania. Lively but easy to handle, it combines the great rusticity of the Hucul and the Shetland. It is a mount for any young rider, and is also used in equitherapy. The breed, fairly unknown, iscurrently being developed.

The Romanian Pony has been developed recently, since 1989, from crossings between Shetland stallions and Hucul mares. But the breed hasn't been very successful, as the Hucul has already been established as a small mount. It is notably bred in the stud farm of Lucina.
