Height: 1.40m on average. Color: Mainly bay, dark bay, and chestnut. Of robust constitution, it is more massive than most mountain breeds. Distribution: Widespread on the plains of Kur-Araz, Azerbaijan. It is found mainly in the districts of Agdash, Goychay, Kurdamir, and Ucar in Shirvan. The Shirvan is well adapted to rustic living conditions. Because of its strength, it is suitable for work in harness and as a draft horse. Popular at the beginning of the twentieth century, its numbers have been declining.

Locally this breed is considered a hybrid type of Karabakh. The breeding conditions on the farming plains of Kur-Araz are better than in the mountains, and enable the breed to grow bigger.

阿塞拜疆
