It is also used in equestrian tourism. It is one of the mounts of the carabinieri regiments. This native breed remains rare and threatened, although its currently dynamic breeding program has given it new life over the past twenty years.

The Siciliano is a very ancient breed, the result of crossings between native Sicilian horses, which have been present for a long time on the island, and Eastern horses imported over time. The Eastern blood is very noticeable. Every Siciliano must be born in Sicily to be considered a legitimate Siciliano. Breeders have established the importance of the lineage of foals in their plans for the breed.
