Height: 1.58 m-1.70m. Color: Often black, and also bay, dark bay, gray. There is an ancient type of this horse, massive, with a strong head and a slightly sloping or straight croup; and a modern type, lighter, with amore delicate head and a more sloping croup. Both types have a long, muscular neck, a broad chest, and solid legs. Distribution: Silesia, in southwestern Poland. The Silesian is powerful, gentle, confident, and endowed with lovely gaits. It is resilient and has good health. It is a good carriage horse, and notably performs well in harness races. It is a pleasant recreational horse that is very well suited to equestrian tourism. With probably fewer than 3,000 horses, around 1,600 of which were brood mares and 220 stallions in 2011, the breed is popular in Poland, but remains rare and little known elsewhere.
繁育历史
The breed was created at the end of the nineteenth century by crossing halfblood local mares with Oldenburg and East Friesian horses. It was a good carriage horse. After World War Ⅱ received Thoroughbred blood. Today, it is sometimes again crossed with Thoroughbreds to obtain good horses for dressage and show jumping.
