Height: 1.60m-1.70m. Color: Most often chestnut, bay, dark bay, roan, very rarely black. It is sometimes erroneously confused with the Russian Draft. It is more massive than the Russian Draft, and weighs between 700kg and 1,000kg. It has a head with a straight or slightly convex profile; small eyes; long ears; a short, muscular neck; straight shoulders; a wide back; a muscular, very sloping croup; solid legs; and wide hooves. Distribution: Russia. It is very calm, very powerful and rustic. It works hard and is precocious, but is less rustic than other draft horses. This is a draft and harness horse. The mares are very good milk producers, and it is also raised for meat. The breed, once quite popular, has lost a huge number of animals.

The breed began to appear at the end of the nineteenth century, from the crossing of local mares with Percheron, Belgian, and Suffolk stallions, and was recognized in 1952. This horse participated in intensive farm work in the Soviet era.
