Height: Often over 1.60m. Color: Bay, dark bay, chestnut, black, gray. This is a European sport horse, without a standard, which can scarcely be distinguished from other breeds of this type. AlI these breeds have been too greatly interbred, in the goal of obtaining horses with excellent sport results, for them to be truly differentiated. Distribution: Spain. This is an athletic and energetic horse. It is intended above all for show jumping, but also for dressage and eventing. The Spanish Sport Horse population has stabilized and is decreasing slightly after a period of great expansion (more than 11,300 horses in 2011).

This very recent Spanish breed, which has not been officially established, represents the crossbreeding on Spanish territory of many European sport horses, and responds to a strong demand by Spanish riders. For the time being it is more a registry than a breed in the strict sense. The breed is selected for sport results in show jumping, dressage, and other disciplines. A Spanish Sport Horse is the result either of two Spanish Sport Horse parents, or of a crossing among many different breeds.
