Height: 1.60m-1.70m. Color: Bay, dark bay, black, sometimes with white markings on the head and legs. It has the physique of a trotter, with a muscular croup and strong legs. Distribution: Mainly on the Balearic Islands; most of the population is found on Majorca, followed by Minorca and Ibiza, Spain. It has the characteristics of trotters: docile and cooperative, strong, energetic, and confident. The inhabitants of the Balearic Islands are great fans of trotting races, for which they breed this horse. Because of its good nature, it can also be used for recreational riding. Spain counted more than 9,300 Spanish Trotters in 2011.

The breeding of this trotter began with the importing of French trotters at the end of the nineteenth century. It is a mix of French, American, and Orlov Trotters, and of Balearic (Mallorquin) and Menorquin horses.
