Height: 1.55m-1.63m. Color: Mainly bay or dark bay, occasionally black, chestnut, or roan. It greatly resembles the Ardennais, but is lighter (weighing 550-800kg). The Ardennais has large eyes, where as the eyes of the Swedish Ardennes are small. The Swedish Ardennes has a wide forehead; short, thick neck; broad chest; short back; round, muscular croup; and short, strong legs, with feathering. Distribution: Sweden. It is willing and easy to handle, with a good nature. It is strong and long-lived. It endures the cold climate. It is still used for hauling in places accessible only to horses. It is a good harness horse. The breed, with its small numbers, remains in danger, with around 4,000 horses in Sweden, including around 570 brood mares and 80 stallions.

The Swedish Ardennes is a lineage of Ardennais and Belgians derived from horses imported from Belgium, which were then crossed with Swedish draft horses. It is bred independently of the Ardennais, and has played an important role in Sweden as a farm and draft horse.
