Height: 1.25m-1.45m, an average of 1.35m. Color: Bay, gray, roan, a few bay dun, with white markings on the head and legs. The Rhodope has a thin and compact body, solid legs, and hard black hooves. The mane and tail are abundant, but the mane is often cut into a rounded brush cut, giving it the look of an ancient horse. Distribution: Rhodope Mountains,Thrace, Greece. This good-natured horse is well adapted to rough terrain. It is used for transportation in mountain terrain, for trekking, and for the production of mules. This little-known breed is very rare, with probably fewer than a thousand horses.

The breed is being studied but is not yet officially recognized.
